Make New Zealand your new home with our immigration investor financial plans
Whether it be a Parent Retirement Resident Visa, or the Active Investor Plus Visa we can help
The two New Zealand Investor Visa options are designed to promote investment-based migration for individuals and their family by encouraging overseas investors to reside in New Zealand and contribute to our economic growth and innovation.
For those interested in investing in New Zealand, each visa option has specific fund requirements and criteria that applicants must meet.
With strong economic growth and an expected annual GDP of over $390 billion in 2022 along with being one of the least regulated, free-market based economies in the OECD, makes New Zealand a very attractive investment opportunity with access to a range of industries that make the most of our fertile soil and excellent growing conditions coupled with sophisticated farming methods and advanced agricultural technology which provide the ideal environment for pastoral, forestry and horticulture activities. Various primary commodities account for around half of all goods exports and New Zealand is one of the top five dairy exporters in the world.
Complementing primary production are sizeable manufacturing and service sectors and growing high-tech capabilities. Tourism, film production, and winemaking are also significant.
It's an outward-looking, internationally competitive economy with exports accounting for about 30% of GDP.
For the past two years New Zealand has placed 3rd overall on the 2021 International Tax Competitiveness Index as well as being rated by the World Bank as the easiest place in the world to do business, we have a historically low-inflation environment, with monetary policy managed by the Reserve Bank, our independent central bank that is charged with maintaining price stability. We have a long-standing flexible exchange rate. There are no exchange controls or restrictions on bringing in or repatriating funds.
Acceptable investment criteria
To give you an idea of some of the criteria for acceptable investments they can include:
Equity in NZ firms, public or private. An equity investment can be active or passive and direct or via managed funds (only the proportion of the fund that is invested in NZ is counted as acceptable).
Bonds issued by the NZ Government, NZ local authorities or approved NZ banks, finance companies or firms.
New residential property development that is not for the investor’s personal use and designed to make a commercial return on the open market.
Up to 15% of the investment total can be philanthropic investment, although there are some conditions which must be met for this to be considered.
See below for the three types of visa’s available and some of the criteria that must be met.
-
You are able to invest a total of between NZ $5 million and NZ $15 million (depending on a weighting system that incentivises more ‘active’ investments), across three years and maintain the investment for a further fourth year. You will also need to spend 117 days in New Zealand across the four-year conditional visa period and have a reasonable command of English to at least Level 5 of the International English Language Testing System.
-
You have an adult child who is a New Zealand citizen or resident, and you want to live in New Zealand permanently. You’ll need an annual income of NZ $60,000 plus $1 million to invest for 4 years, and another NZ $500,000 to live on.
In regard to the Active Investor Plus, acceptable investments carry different weightings towards the NZ$15m investment threshold as below, which can be diversified across.
Direct investments into private businesses will receive a 3x weighting, only requiring investment of NZ $5m into direct investments.
Private Equity or Venture Capital receives a 2x weighting, only requiring an investment of NZ $7.5m into private funds.
Equity or Philanthropic investments carry no weighting and are capped at 50% of the total requirement, meaning an investor could only put in NZ $7.5m into listed equities and NZ $7.5m into eligible philanthropic causes.
Diligent Wealth can offer you a range of visa compliant investments which are custom designed to your risk tolerance or other stipulated criteria.
The custom investment options can be hands on or hands off. You can make every decision about the management of your portfolio, with our support, or you can leave the investment decisions to us - whatever suits you best.
You will be supported by ongoing monitoring and reporting of the investments in your portfolio to make sure they are still suitable as well as providing you with the highest levels of service and support before, during and after you migrate to New Zealand.
